The Sunshine Book Club discuss ‘The Carnivorous City’, ‘A Conspiracy of Ravens’ The Sunshine Book Club

The Sunshine Book Club has held its first meeting this year at Quintessence, Ikoyi, Lagos. The group met on January 28, 2017.

There was no meeting in December 2016 so there was so much to catch up on.

We started off talking about New Year goals because no one makes resolutions anymore.

The one goal everyone had on common was to become better versions of ourselves.

The books of the month

For December, we selected two books just incase we couldn’t meet up for the holidays. We read ‘The Carnivorous City’ by Toni Kan and ‘A Conspiracy of Ravens’ by Othuke Ominiabohs.

Both book brought on interesting conversations. Too bad you missed the meeting. See pictures from the meet up below.

This month (February), we are reading ‘Under The Udala Trees’ by Chinelo Okparanta.

Other close runners up in the selection of book of the month included:

Tomorrow Died Yesterday by Chimeka Garricks

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi

Blackass by A. Igoni Barrett

On Becoming by Toke Makinwa

Baron of Broad Street by El Nukoya

Long Throat by Yemisi Aribisala

The next Sunshine Book Club meeting holds in Lagos on February 25, 2017.

I love what you’re doing in terms of getting people interested in literature. Im going to check out the ‘The Carnivorous City’, sounds a lot like lagos.

Its true people don’t set resolutions anymore. But then again, it could be that resolutions have been repackaged as goals. Is there a difference?

All the best going forward x

  2. When’s the next meeting?

  3. There’s really no diffrence between goals and resolutions. The pictures look great. Maybe if I come to Lagos, I’ll come for one of your meetings. 😉

  4. Looks like it was a fun meeting!
